"Recently i’ve done some research on visual narrative. it may seem new to you whom are not deeply in art contextual. it is a new term coined by a group of artist who wanted to called their work of art by their own category. Guess what, the advertising that we student had to do is also under the category of visual narration ! including comic books, paintings and sculpture. but why they have to label it differently ?
Visual narrative are two words that are combined together to describe a series of images with a connection with text. Anyways, according to Pimenta in her article of Design Thought, 2010, the term was came up for granted. the usage of the word “Visual” is to replace pictorial, which was used in late nineteenth century and it is a Latin word. Pictorial word seems too strong for them and they convert it into something synonym yet lighter, visual. while “Narrative” is an act of narration.
So here are a few examples of visual narrative in my context of understanding. It is used in Advertising, Comics, Storyboard, and Photography specifically Photojournalism."
I came across this blog (http://nuramalinaishak.tumblr.com/) which had an interesting post on visual narrative in terms of imagery.
I decided to include it as a reference point, highlighting the many different forms visual narrative takes in art and the visual image.
